Sunday cartoon: Boost up, buckle up kids!

BURRILLVILLE – With the car show season well underway here in this area, it is very important to remind kids and families about the need to properly restrain children in vehicles. The safest place to, “boost up and buckle up,” children under the age of 12-years-old is in the backseat of your family vehicle.

The messages related to buckle up and traffic safety are conveyed regularly at area car shows and cruise nights from Memorial Day weekend until the week of Halloween each year, with the award-winning Buckleupallofus Child Passenger and Traffic Safety Campaign. We still have three full months of car shows and cruise nights ahead of us here in this region. Thousands of Buckleupallofus coloring posters, stickers, four-page coloring books, full color posters, newspaper and magazine published coloring cartoons and fridge magnets are passed out to kids and families at these very popular automotive events here in Rhode Island, New England and nationwide by myself, classic car and truck clubs, DJ’s, host locations, police officers, firefighters and child safety advocates along with non-profit and charity organizations.

Restaurants, diners, grocery stores, small businesses, retailers, gift shops, theme parks, fairs, festivals, plazas, malls, auto dealerships, automotive repair shops and retail parts stores, car washes, gas stations, race tracks and even ice cream stands and community centers help distribute these kids and family safety reminders not only during the car show season but often throughout the entire year. Some establishments are open seasonal and some are open yearlong.

This week’s Sunday feature depicts Buckleupallofus reminding kids to boost up and buckle, with some cool hot rods and a muscle car. Kids can also draw their own favorite classic vehicle in the white space next to Bucky, then color in the cartoon to proudly display on the family refrigerator, reminding everyone else in their home to buckle up for safety.

Whenever possible, please take a kid to a car show.
